San Mateo County Violence Prevention Presents: Youth Suicide and Self Harming Behavioral

Community Leaders,

Did you know, that every year in the United States 250,000 youth attempt suicide? This means that every day close to 11 of our young people die by suicide in the U.S. Youth suicide, at times is underreported because of social stigma, shame, and guilt among family and friends.

Or that one in every 200 girls between 13 and 19 years old, or one-half of one percent, cut themselves regularly. Those who cut comprise about 70 percent of teen girls who self injure. This means that without treatment, many who begin cutting themselves as teens will continue the behavior well into their adult years and the number of cases in on the rise!

The San Mateo County Violence Prevention Network will be addressing this issue by providing a workshop presented by Toni Demarco, MS,MFT  on Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation from 9am to 12pm.
