Tips

Giving Feedback
  • Describe the behavior. "I heard the door slam and you running up the stairs when you came home last night."

  • State the impact of the behavior on you or others. "I had a hard time going back to sleep and that was disturbing to me because I had an early appointment at the office, the next day."

  • Ask for their interpretation of the situation. "Could you tell me what was going on with you last night?"

  • Make a suggestion or request and ask for their suggestions. "I need you to be quiet when you come home late. I know it can be hard if you're upset. Can we come up with any ideas that would help?"

The Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC), founded in 1986, is a public benefit corporation serving individuals, groups, and organizations throughout San Mateo County. We provide conflict prevention, management, and resolution services and promote the use of non-adversarial processes in a wide variety of situations. PCRC services empower people, build relationships, and reduce violence.

As the major provider of community-based conflict management and prevention services in San Mateo County, PCRC can put its experience to work for you. Our small professional staff supports nearly 200 trained volunteers from many ethnic, social, educational and vocational backgrounds who serve as mediators, facilitators and communication trainers.

Through its mediation programs, PCRC staff and volunteers help clients identify problems, clarify perspectives and concerns, develop viable options, and reach durable and mutually satisfactory agreements. As the result of PCRC's outreach and training efforts, more and more people are recognizing the value of collaborative approaches to working through complex situations and developing workable agreements.
